Bees boss Andy Scott insists he hasn’t hatched a secret plan to halt Hudderfield Town striker Jordan Rhodes because the high-flying Terriers have other threats.

Rhodes enjoyed an impressive loan spell with the Bees from Ipswich Town last season as he notched seven goals in 14 appearances - including a hat-trick at Shrewsbury Town - to help Scott’s men on their way to the League Two title.

The Griffin Park chief missed out on the 19-year-old’s signature this summer as he was lured to the Galpharm Stadium for an undisclosed fee - said to be worth around £850,000.

He has continued where he left off at Brentford with seven goals so far this campaign making his battle with Bristol City loanee James Wilson is one of several mothwatering match-ups.

And Scott, who praised his team’s efforts in defeat at Charlton Athletic on Saturday, reckons he won’t be telling his side to play any differently than they have done so far this campaign.

“The reason we are in League One is because we have been successful playing the way I want us to play. If we start going away from that it is not going to work, certainly against the better sides,” he said.

“I tell them I believe in them and they believe in each other. It’s just they made some mistakes against Charlton and got punished for them.

“When you make mistakes in the wrong areas they do punish you and we’re going to need to learn that quickly.

“I don’t think anyone looked overawed; they all gave it a right good go and wanted to prove they are on a par with the Charlton boys and I have no worries about playing some big boys next time round.

“We’ve got Huddersfield away next week and if anything I’m looking forward to it more because we’ll be a better side.

“They’ve got a very strong squad and we have obviously have to handle that. Jordan is a physically strong player and we will have to nullify his strength, but he is not the only one we have to think about.”

Brentford’s next three games: Sept 12 Huddersfield Town (a), 19 Bristol Rovers (h), 26 Yeovil Town (a).
