The last time Casuals hosted Chipstead in a league game the sides were playing Combined Counties football and the millennium was still a few years away.

Now a level higher and safe from relegation both teams relaxed and offered some entertaining attacking football.

A bright and breezy opening period saw plenty of action. Luke Gay controlled Matt Smith's 3rd minute cross but having taken a side step and teed himself up, curled his shot wide of the right hand upright.

The Chips looked a fine dead ball outfit and Casuals old boy Aaron Cole-Bolt produced a good quality delivery. Daryl Coleman should have done better with his corner but planted a free header wide of the goal and another teasing free kick across the face of goal was narrowly missed by a sliding Fred Fleming.

In open play though Casuals looked the sharper with Gay and Carlton Murray-Price opening up the green and white hooped defence at will.

Murray-Price had his best game yet in Casuals colours as he placed another clever pass between Chris Head and Joe Garner but Fleming managed to scramble Gay's cross clear from in front of his own keeper. Richard Price was next to benefit from Murray-Price's passing but flashed a shot across goal as he too raced clear.Chips had a huge let off midway through the opening half as Gay's cross hit Garner and bounced towards goal. Only a last gasp lunge by Head stopped the ball crossing the line. The opening goal finally arrived on the half hour. Byron Brown put over a sumptuous cross from the left, Murray-Price stooped and powered a header to the top left corner.A fine goal. With Casuals now firmly on top it seemed a matter of how many they would get. Murray-Price shot at Parkinson from 18 yards and then Brown got on the end of a Matt Smith cross but placed his shot wide. Liam Oxley put a flick over the bar on a rare Chipstead excursion into the Casuals penalty area and they had a huge let off on the stroke of half time when a long ball over the top was handled by Fleming but not seen by the officials.

Casuals Surrey neighbours bossed the opening 25 minutes of the second half without ever threatening a shot on target.

The effort Casuals exerted in tracking their opponents though was causing them to wilt and manager Brian Adamson gave them fresh legs introducing Tyrone Myton and Martin Dunne who immediately stemmed the flow. Price's superb 40-yard ball picked out Myton but he could only find the side netting from well left of centre and Gay saw a good shot swerve just over the bar.A late rally from Chips almost produced an unlikely equaliser but Oakins shot across goal.

This entertaining fixture ended on a comedic note with a last gasp Chipstead corner and keeper Parkinson up for a moment of glory. It didn't work, and the ball was played out to Murray-Price with just one defender to beat and an open goal 50 yards away.

The big striker elected to run around Garner before shooting but in his excitement charged across midfield and was unable to prevent himself ending head first in the dug outs.
