James Dasaolu could not hide his delight after scooping his third British Indoor men’s 60m title.
The 28-year-old Croydon Harrier, competing at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield on Saturday, bounced back from his disqualification at ISTAF Indoor in Berlin, Germany a couple of weeks ago, to post a season’s best winning time of 6.53 seconds.
Andrew Robertson (6.54secs) and Sean Safo-Antwi (6.57secs) occupied the other podium places while Sutton’s Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Belgrave Harriers five-time British champion Dwain Chambers finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
“I am so pleased, honestly, it was so tight I didn’t know if I had got it,” said Dasaolu, who secured his Team GB place for IAAF World Indoor Championships next month in Portland, USA.
“The win means so much to me after the season I had last year.
“I am happy to return to winning ways with a season’s best and cement my place in Portland.”
And Dasaolu believes he has every chance of winning a medal in the worlds.
“I’m feeling confident and will going in looking to pick up a medal,” he added.
“We have a good bunch of 60m runners and the goal will always be to win a medal now.
"I’ve become British Champion, I am in great shape. I know I didn’t get a great start in the final, but I still got the win.
“The plan was always to go to Portland and build in a few races. I always run well outdoors after a strong indoor season so I will focus on my training now before the champs.”
