Over the past three weekends, 48 young stars of tomorrow from Sutton & Cheam Swimming Club took on the best the county had to offer in the Surrey Championships.

They won 16 gold, 10 silver and nine bronze medals and were ranked fourth on the medal table.

The haul marks an improvement on last year when Sutton & Cheam swimmers brought home three gold, 12 silver and six bronze medals.

Sutton's youngest representatives, Olivia Humphries and Joseph Suggitt, won gold in the girls 10 year olds 200m freestyle event and silver in 50m freestyle respectively.

Michael Rees won six gold medals, three silver and two bronze medals - in the 15-year-old male category he won 200m backstroke in great style with a lead of almost 11 seconds, and a six-second lead in 400m IM.

Joseph Lenihan won five golds and one silver and was presented with the top boy award in his 13-year-olds male group.

He finished the 400m freestyle five seconds ahead of nearest competitor, and his fantastic performance in the 50m backstroke leaves him second in the British rankings.
