Richmond Gymnastics Association’s head acrobatics coach Mel Sanders reckons the club’s World Age Group Acrobatic Gymnastics medallists deserved better.

Lewis Walker and Isabella Montagna claimed a junior mixed pairs gold in Paris last week, while U16s women’s group trio Tabbie Dawson, Scarlett Wright, and Kitty Williams claimed a silver medal.

The latter might have been celebrating a double gold for the Townmead Road club, but were pipped to top spot by 0.150 points by their Russian rivalson the competition’s final day.

“What an amazing week,” said Sanders.

“I cannot even begin to describe how proud I am. “They were quite superb and showed true depth of character to perform at such a high level, under so much pressure, and to do so well. “A gold and a silver is the least they deserved – they were brilliant.”

Walker and Montagna became the club’s first acrobatic world champions following in the footsteps of 2013 tumbling world champion Heather Cowell.

Richmond Gymnastics Association athletes also claimed one gold and five silver medals at the European Acrobatics Championships last year.
