Sutton United’s new striker Jamie Taylor will be out of action for up to two weeks after damaging ankle ligaments in Friday’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal.

And there was further disappointment for United boss Paul Doswell when Marvin Williams limped out of the 1-0 defeat to Fulham on Saturday with a sore Achilles.

However, to accommodate the back-to-back friendlies, Doswell used his contacts to get in extra bodies, and from that group he has found two players who will stay on at the Lane.

He said: “Jamie fell awkwardly against Arsenal in the opening 10 minutes and he will be out for a couple of weeks at least, and Marvin just felt his Achilles tighten and go sore, so he had to come off.

“You don’t want too many injuries pre-season, so that was the downside of the weekend, but there have been plenty of positives.

“We had 750 for the Fulham game, and a crowd of 2,100 on Friday night – it has been a fantastis weekend for the club.”

He added: “It was obvious that we did not have the squad to cover the two games in two days, so I put a general text to all the agents that I know, and Moses [Swaibu] was available to train with us last week and play in the games.

“It was the same with Kamarl Duncan the centre half, he had been released by Exeter City, and young Leon Redwood who played against Arsenal, he had been released by Brentford.

“Ben Kudjodi has played Championship games for Crystal Palace, he rang me up and asked if he could train with us, he did well enough in training to help us out over the weekend.

“Moses and Ben are two that will stay with us for the foreseeable future, if they get other clubs then that is fine.

“We have not got a great deal of cover across the back, so Moses will fit in nicely for pre-season, and then we will take it from there.”
