OLYMPIC sprinter Adam Gemili will line-up in the semi-finals of the World Junior Championships this evening (July 11).

Eighteen-year-old Adam, who lives in Dartford, comfortably won the first heat of the men’s 100m in Barcelona yesterday (July 10), clocking in a time of 10.37 seconds.

He equalled the time run in the same heat by American sprinter Tyreek Hill.

The former Dartford Grammar School pupil said: “I tried to execute the start and I think I did just that.

“I saved myself today, it’s really hot and I know I can go much, much faster.

“I’ve been working hard with my coach and my group and have become much better – my technique has improved a lot lately and it is showing through my running.

“I’m happy about where I am now.”

If Adam is successful in the semi-finals – which are scheduled for 7:30pm tonight – he will participate in the final, held at 9:45pm.

Adam, who will also compete at London 2012, became a sprint-sensation after running 100m in 10.08 seconds earlier in the year.

The time was comfortably within the Olympic standard qualifying time and Adam went on to earn his place in Team GB after competing at the Olympic trials in June.
