The family and friends of Charlie Davies paid tribute to the "fun-loving" 23-year-old, as his ex-boyfriend was charged with his murder.

Charlie of Templedene Avenue in Staines died in hospital on last Thursday night, after he was doused in petrol and set alight outside his home at around 11.20pm on Saturday, June 14.

In a statement the Davies family said: "He will always be remembered as happy, smiling Charlie who had a big heart and always looked forward to tomorrow.

"Charlie was a joy to be around and was loved by all who knew him.

"He had a fun-loving and outgoing personality, enjoyed socialising and meeting new people.

"He had a caring nature and always had time for anyone and he lived life to the full and would always try to make everyone laugh."

Charlie was a popular staff member at Tesco in Osterley, where he was a checkout team leader.

He had worked there since he was a student at the Lampton School in Hounslow.

Store manager Mark Hedges said: "He was very very outgoing.

"To be perfectly honest if you did a vote of who was the most popular person in the store, he would have won hands down.

"Everyone is in shock. The whole branch is in mourning."

Charlie's page on the social networking site Facebook, where he listed his interests as shopping, clubbing and eating out, has been flooded with tributes.

One of his friends commented on a photo of them saying: "This photo was in a frame by Charlie's side on his last days in hospital.

"Charlie had it brought over from his bedroom along with the other photo frames in his room at the time he went into hospital.

"Unfortunately Charlie never woke up to see them."

His family wished to thank the neighbours who helped Charlie on the night he was attacked and those who have left cards and flowers since.

Their statement added: "As a family we were blessed to have had Charlie in our lives and now there is a big empty space."
