The model agency boss who received death threats after planning to hire out a Madeleine McCann lookalike has compared her plight to Pakistan's murdered former leader Benazir Bhutto.

Mum-of-one Shona Adams, who runs the Juliet Adams Model Agency from her home in Streatham Hill, told the Streatham Guardian she now fears for her young son's life after receiving death threats and racial abuse.

They came in response to reports which state Ms Adams hoped to make money from using three-year-old Kelsey Kudla to play the missing girl in a film.

"I'm absolutely worried about my son," said the 41-year-old. "Benazir Bhutto received death threats telling her not to go back to Pakistan and when she did she was killed.

"I want to clear the air with the public - I no longer want to have these threats and want to protect my security.

"People say I'm cold and callous but I'm a mother who wants to keep her son safe."

Ms Adams insists the agency, which specialises in finding lookalikes, was approached by the press to find a double for Madeleine, who went missing last May in Portugal.

"We no longer accept orders for Maddy lookalikes," she said, adding that she had contacted the McCann's spokesman Clarence Mitchell to wish the family peace and happiness.

A Lambeth police spokesman confirmed officers were investigating the death threats but said they were not prepared to discuss how many had been sent, or specifically what had been threatened.

According to the Sun, Ms Adams hoped talk of a Madeleine movie could put American tot Kelsey in the running for £9million a day, of which she would take a 20 per cent cut.

She allegedly said the plan was "not sinister - it's entertainment" and shrugged off criticism it could hurt Madeleine's parents Gerry and Kate, saying there was nothing they could do in a democracy.

Ms Adams found the lookalike after Kelsey's mum emailed her saying she had been stopped seven times in one day by people pointing out how similar her daughter was to the missing four-year-old.

The McCanns spokesman Clarence Mitchell said the lookalike plan was "disgraceful, hurtful and offensive".
