A detective critically injured after being hit by a getaway car carrying a man she was trying to arrest is now fully conscious.

West Midlands Police Detective Constable Catherine Corbett is able to squeeze her family's hands, according to a statement released by her force.

D Con Corbett was trying to arrest a man in Bath Road between Heathrow and Hounslow when she was hit by the blue Peugeot on November 2 about 8.10am.

The Solihull detective and three other officers were in pursuit of a man who had been wanted for 12 months.

D Con Corbett, 39, is being treated at London's Charing Cross Hospital and is no longer considered to be in a critical condition.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "Cathy has now fully regained consciousness and is able to move, this afternoon she was able to reach out to her family and squeeze their hands.

"Cathy is no longer considered to be critical although she will be very poorly for some time to come."

Rashpal Singh, 41, of Gladstone Street, West Bromwich, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He was remanded in custody on Monday by magistrates and will appear at Harrow Crown Court on January 4.

Two of the other officers suffered minor injuries in the incident.
