The jury in the trial of a man accused of shooting dead a Thornton Heath dad as he protected his family has retired to consider its verdict.

Christopher Thomas, of Morrison House, Tulse Hill, is charged with murdering 41-year-old Carlton Ned in the hallway of his home on July 1, 2011.

Mr Ned was killed defending his wife wife Donna Michael and stepson Karl Wilson from masked gunmen who had barged into his Langdale Road home.

Prosecutors alleged Mr Thomas wanted to kill Mr Wilson, a rapper under the name Konan, because he was jealous of his friendship with his ex-girlfriend.

Mr Thomas, 22, denies murder, attempted murder, wounding with intent and possession of a firearm.

His trial began at the Old Bailey three weeks ago.

Last week he changed his plea to admit guilt on two seperate charges of unlawful possession of a gun and unlawful possession of ammunition.
