Eddie Jones has announced the England training squad who will attend a pre-season camp in Teddington.

The England head coach has named the 37 players – which features Harlequins’ Marcus Smith and Kyle Sinckler - who will take part in the three-day camp at the Lensbury Hotel, that starts this weekend (August 5).

Seven of the British and Irish Lions players will spend one day at the camp, whilst the other players have opted to remain on their summer break, along with nine athletes who made their debuts on England’s successful tour of Argentina in June and three others who have been called up.

Jones said: “We are at an incredibly important stage with two years to go to the Rugby World Cup in Japan and there is still a big step to make if we want to be the number one team in the world.

“We are going to have to be meticulous in a preparation in everything we do as we build towards Tokyo and that is why this camp is vital ahead of this season.

Smith, 18, has been called up having been involved in some sessions at England’s training camp in Brighton at the end of last season along with playing in England U20s 2017 Sex Nations Grand Slam winning squad whist Sinckler joins the camp fresh off the British and Irish Lions tour.

“The players, coaches and staff will use these three days to reconnect and ensure we are all clear on what our priorities and expectations are,” added Jones.

All the players will undergo medical check-ups, functional and rugby training, attend planning meeting and individual reviews in preparation for the upcoming premierships and Old Mutual Wealth Series – a series of three tests against Argentina, Australia and Samoa, in November.

Another camp will be held in September before Jones announces the final England squad on October 26 to play in the home Old Mutual Wealth Series.
