Organisers of this year’s Mitcham Carnival have said they are expecting more than 10,000 visitors this year, and residents still have time to take part in a parade through the town.

To tie in with the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations this year, Merton Council has made this year’s theme Elizabeth to Elizabeth, marking the several visits to Mitcham by Queen Elizabeth I between 1591 and 1596.

The current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, visited Mitcham for the first time last week as part of her jubilee tour.

Some of the attractions this year include a jousting stunt team called Knights of the Damned, a family fun fair, a mascot race-off and music by Fanny and the Electric Band.
