There is major disruption to trains after a person was hit at New Malden this afternoon.

The station is closed until further notice after he person was hit at 1.11pm by the Waterloo to Shepperton train.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP were called to New Malden rail station following the report of a person being struck by a train.

“BTP and Metropolitan Police officers attended the incident, which was reported to police at 1.11pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.

"Paramedics from London Ambulance Service also attended but the person was declared dead at the scene.

"Officers are currently working to establish the identity of the person and inform their next of kin.”

South West trains between London Waterloo and Guildford, Basingstoke and Portsmouth Harbour have been subject to major disruption with delays of up to 90 minutes.

Trains are still running from Surbiton to Hampton Court and Woking. Tickets are being accepted on the underground, buses and First Great Western trains.
