A film shoot has brought Hollywood actors to the streets of Morden.

The movie, Papadopoulos and Sons, tells the story of a rich businessman who loses his multi-million pound empire and finds himself running a takeaway.

Its cast includes Bafta winner Stephen Dillane, who appeared opposite Nicole Kidman in the Hours and Clive Owen in King Arthur, and Georgia Groome - star of British teen film Angus, thongs and perfect snogging.

Filming on the comedy began in Morden this week and is set to end next weekend. The shoot has involved transforming a furniture shop in Aberconway Road into a takeaway, one of the film's key locations, while the production's trailers have camped at the north end of Morden Hall Park.

Papadopoulos and Sons, the debut full-length film by writer and director Marcus Markou, is scheduled to be released next year.

In it Dillane plays Harry Papadopoulos, a successful London-Greek businessman with a lavish lifestyle who loses almost everything and is forced to return to work in the Three Brothers fish and chip shop - co-owned by his brother.

A spokesman for the film said: "Something unexpected happens in the Three Brothers. Harry begins to learn the true meaning of happiness and discovers that real success is the joy you feel. Sometimes, you have to lose it all to see what you truly have."

The production is the latest boost for film making in Merton, following the launch of Wimbledon Studios in Colliers Wood earlier this year.

The complex of sets and offices, formerly the home of ITV series the Bill, has already hosted productions including a biography of Margaret Thatcher starring Oscar winning actress Meryl Streep.
