A callous thief who stole a charity box containing £20 from a New Malden bank has been jailed.
Daniel Smith, of Kingsnympton Park, Kingston, was caught on August 19 stealing the Great Ormond Street charity box from Barclays in New Malden.
The 26-year-old admitted the offence on August 20 and, when he appeared in Kingston Magistrates’ Court on October 9, he was sentenced to 16 weeks’ jail.
Smith was also handed another 16-week prison term, to run concurrently, for stealing two bottles of Joop aftershave from Boots in Leatherhead on October 4.
His sister and co-defendant, Sharon Smith, 34, also of Kingsnympton Park, failed to appear for the sentence hearing and a warrant has been issued for her arrest
