The daily dairy duties of our nation’s milkmen and women can be celebrated in a new nationwide competition launched by one of the oldest doorstep delivery services.

Milkman of the Year has been set up by milk&more, allowing residents to demonstrate their gratitude for the numerous services provided by milkmen and women.

Milkmen often go above and beyond their call of duty in helping their customers, many of whom are elderly or housebound, and this competition will allow their extra work to be recognised.

Head of marketing at Dairy Crest, Chris Munn said: "It’s a campaign to show the public support for milkmen and what they symbolise as part of an old and wonderful British tradition."

Trevor Sayer, depot manager at the Wimbledon Milk Depot said: "The milk&more Milkman of the Year competition is a great way for customers to say thank you to their milkmen and women and to help ensure that this great British tradition remains for the next generation.

"It means a lot to the milkmen and women at the depot to get feedback from their customers.

"They care about what their customers think and want to give the best service possible," he added.

Voting is now open and will close on Saturday, September 12 when milk&more will pick four regional winners and one national winner.

Winners could scoop £1,000 and people who nominate winners could win £250 as well.

You can vote via leaflets handed out by milkmen, the milk&more website or the milk&more Facebook page, including a couple of lines about why your milkman should rise to the top.
