Some purrfect pets are calling for your votes to be named top cat in a battle of the four-legged friends.

Forget Larry, 10 Downing Street’s chief mouser, Wimbledon MP Stephen Hammond’s cat Archie is in the running to be crowned Purr Minister 2015.

The cute tabby who lives at home with Stephen and his wife Sally was a stray who attached himself to them while they were on holiday in Portugal.

The abandoned moggy followed them round for a week, meowing loudly to get attention, and got himself a new home for his efforts.

The kitten who the family estimate is 18 months-old, ‘tolerates’ living with their black cocker spaniel Jasper but tension really shows at meal times.

Wimbledon Times:

Will he be a winner? Archie

"They tolerate each other’s existence.

"They will both sit in the same room as each other but the tension is apparent when the food is out.

"We have to keep it separate," Mr Hammond said.

The kitten likes to spend his time eating and having a stroll around the house and garden.

He enjoys eating, sleeping, having his tummy tickled and more sleeping.

Mr Hammond said: "He’s very feisty.

"He’s very lovely and very jolly, and he has the charm to win this competition."

Archie is up against five other MP’s cats and is hoping for the most votes.

In the running are Annette Brooke’s cat Billy, Simon Kirby’s cat Mango, Rigel, who lives with Caroline Spelman, Ripley who is Graeme Morrice’s moggy and Mark Spencer’s Tibbs.

The winning cat will be crowned Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s Purr Minster 2015 and will be given a tour of the home in London.

Voters have until Monday, January 26 to choose their favourite feline.
