Police raided a bank in Morden this afternoon after reports of a robbery.

Armed officers were witnessed storming the Nationwide branch in London Road at about 2pm, but no-one was arrested.

Callum Murray, 18, who was passing the bank as police entered, said he saw about 15 police officers raid the bank while a police helicopter circulated overhead.

He added: "I heard from our community support officer that it might be the same people who robbed the Raynes Park bank."

Barclays Bank in Coombe Lane, Raynes Park and HSBC in London Road, Mitcham, were both robbed on December 23.

No arrests made three weeks after terrifying bank robberies

A shop worker who works at Powerhouse electrical suppliers two doors down from Morden's Nationwide said police arrived at 2pm and taped off the road.

A Nationwide spokeswoman said: "We can confirm an incident took place this afternoon at our Morden Branch.

"No one was injured but the branch is closed while police carry out an investigation."

Officers from the Met's Flying Squad are investigating.

Anyone who witnessed the raid or with information should call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
