A violent burglar was caught red-handed driving with a large stash of drugs by police investigating a vicious attack on an academic at his Wimbledon home.

Dawid Tychon was stopped six days after Paul Kohler suffered life-changing injuries in an attack at his home on August 11 in Kings Road, Wimbledon.

Suspect Tychon was driving along Garratt Lane in Wandsworth on August 17 when police stopped him and found he had cocaine, amphetamines, cannabis, biperazine and other class C drugs.

He was also driving while disqualified.

Tychon, 29, of Elison Road, Streatham Vale, had been targeted based on intelligence he had been involved in the brutal burglary on Paul Kohler and his wife as part of a Polish gang.

During a court hearing on Wednesday, November 26, at Kingston Crown Court, Tychon admitted driving while disqualified and possession of cocaine, amphetamines, cannabis, biperazine and other class C drugs.

Judge Susan Tapping said only a substantial custodial sentence would be appropriate when he is eventuallly sentenced.

He still faces a trial after denying driving a vehicle without consent, handling stolen goods and going equipped for theft.

He had appeared at the same court last month after admitting the aggravated burglary in Kings Road which left Paul Kohler with life changing injuries.

Four men, Mariusz Tomaszewski, 32, of Pitcairn Road, Tooting, Oskar Pawlowichz, 29, of no fixed abode, Pawel Honc, 23, of no fixed address and Tychon will be sentenced on January 29 for burgling Mr Kohler.

It is expected Tychon will be sentenced for the drug and driving offences at the same time.
