As Wandsworth prepares for the biggest weekend celebration in recent times residents are being advised to plan early to avoid disappointment and delays.

A number of bridges between Battersea Bridge and Tower Bridge, will be affected on Sunday between 6am and 11pm by the royal flotilla.

Putney Bridge and Wandsworth Bridge, will be open as usual and pedestrians will be able to see part of the muster, the pageant's tailback, from them.

Elsewhere in Wandsworth, Battersea and Chelsea bridge will both be open to pedestrians only as a walkway but not as a viewing area or platform.

Albert Bridge, Lambeth Bridge, Westminster Bridge, Blackfriars and Tower Bridge, whose bastules will be raised in salute, will be closed to both vehicles and pedestrians, although a lucky few with official accreditation will be able to view the flotilla from either of these bridges.

The front of the flotilla is expected to pass under Battersea Bridge at approximately 2.30pm with each bridge passed, on average, every subsequent 15-20 minutes.

There will be 1,000 boats on the Thames and the pageant route is approximately 7 miles long - the full route including the mustering and dispersal areas runs from Hammersmith to Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich which is 13 miles.

People wanting to see the pageant and the Queen in all their glory will need to be downstream of Chelsea Bridge as The Queen is expected to join the procession at Chelsea Harbour just before the bridge.

Both sides of the river are expected to be lined with up to a million spectators watching the pageant - in some places you will be able to go down on to the river bank to clap the flotilla along, so getting their early and finding a good spot is advised.

If you can't get near the river side then viewing screens will be erected in the following locations: Chelsea Embankment, Grosvenor Road, Milbank, Lambeth Bridge, Westminster Bridge, Victoria Embankment and Blackfriars Bridge.

Eighty thousand people will be flooding into the Battersea Park area for the sold-out Diamond Jubilee Festival which runs from 12noon to 7pm on Sunday.

A record-breaking 233 street parties are planned across the borough spread over the bank holiday weekend.

Richmond, nearest rival for the title of the capital's party borough, was narrowly beaten with 230 parties.

There will be numerous road closures but none on main roads - although traffic on these is likely to be heavy.

Unlike many other boroughs there will be no beacon lit in Wandsworth on Monday night to mark the end of the diamond jubilee weekend. According to the council either no one applied to stage it, or the application was rejected.

The flotilla will be passing the following bridges at the following approximate times: Battersea Bridge: 2.30pm Albert Bridge: 2.45pm Chelsea Bridge: 3pm Vauxhall Bridge: 3.10pm Westminster Bridge: 3.25pm Westminster Bridge: 3.25pm Waterloo Bridge: 3.30pm Blackfriars Bridge: 3.40pm Southwark Bridge: 3.45pm London Bridge: 3.50pm London Bridge: 4pm
