Wandsworth’s primary schools continue to make further improvements after the latest league tables revealed the borough had the best Key Stage Two scores in inner London.

The tables, released by the Department for Education, show 78 per cent of Wandsworth’s 11-year-old schoolchildren achieved a level four or higher in the core subjects of maths and English.

The borough’s percentage score was five points higher than the national average.

A number of schools achieved perfect results, with Chesterton Primary, Our Lady Queen of Heaven, Holy Ghost Catholic Primary School and St Mary's C of E Primary School, Putney, all managing to attain a 100 per cent level four pass rate.

Executive member for education and children’s services at Wandsworth Council, Kathy Tracey, said: “These are stunning achievements by the borough’s young people.

"These 11-year-olds deserve great praise for all their hard work - and so do the teachers who have done such a good job in driving up standards in our schools.”

Other schools, such as Honeywell Primary and Belleville Primary, also attained excellent scores, both getting over 90 per cent pass rates in both subjects, with the feat being that bit more impressive considering they have year groups close to 90 strong.

Some schools also showed great improvement with the Alton School’s pupil scores rising 47 points since last year, with Riversdale being up 26 points and Penwortham up 20 points.

Only Southmead School, Southfields, did not achieve the 60 per cent level four pass rate for english and could be subject to intervention from the government if scores do not improve.
