The show went on at fire-stricken Battersea Arts Centre this weekend as two performances were held despite severe damage to the building.

Flames ripped through the Grade II*-listed former town hall on Friday evening, destroying the Grand Hall and Lower Hall.

But the efforts of some 80 firefighters saved large parts of the building including the "priceless" octagonal glass dome.

Performances of Fiction and Lorraine and Alan were held as planned on Saturday.

Artistic director David Jubb tweeted: "Everyone @battersea_arts blown away by support for building & organisation, thank you Battersea friends.

"It's heartbreaking. But we will get through this. Brick by brick. Most importantly all ok."

The centre’s official account posted: "We've lost track of all the wonderful offers of support we've been receiving via Twitter.

"Wonderful to see the building buzzing with people.

"All shows apart from #GeckoMissing will go ahead next week as planned. We are looking forward to seeing you.

"Our Grand Hall was lost in the fire, but we hope to find new venues for shows that were scheduled to be in this space."
