A librarian completely changed her career when she ditched books for bracelets two years ago.

Sally Murphy, 28, from Colliers Wood, worked in both Sutton and Dulwich libraries.

She then decided in the midst of the recession she was going to set up her own business.

She said: “At the time it was quite scary, they were making lots of redundancies; all the skilled librarians were being made redundant.

“I decided I needed to follow my heart.

“I still don’t regret that decision as I enjoy my job so much.”

Mrs Murphy used to work in the children’s section of the library and carried her love of storytelling into her designs which include miniature Harry Potter book pendants.

She said: “It’s kind of my personal collection that has got out of hand.”

Mrs Murphy now sells jewellery in boutiques in eight different countries as well as multiple online shops.

She said that she owes a lot to Glenthorne High School, which helped to encourage her creativity when she was a youngster.

Next week Mrs Murphy will be trading in the Christmas market in Sutton High Street beginning on Monday, December 5, for one week.
