Libraries could be sold off to boost town hall finances in the next four years.

Lambeth Council’s cabinet member for finance and resources, Councillor Paul McGlone, could not rule out selling library buildings as part of its resources disposals programme.

He said, in response to a question at Wednesday’s full council meeting about whether libraries would be protected, that some council assets were impossible to sell while “others, such as £240m-worth of property assets, could technically be disposed of.

However there are difficult decisions surrounding buildings, such as libraries, where it is necessary to ensure that the right choices are made”.
