An 83-year-old woman found stabbed to death in her home has been formally identified as Winifred Crowther.

Her body was discovered at her address in Lumley Road, Sutton at 6.30pm on Thursday afternoon.

She was formally identified by a family member this morning.

A post-mortem held yesterday gave her cause of death as multiple stab wounds.

Police today confirmed they have launched a murder inquiry.

Her 87-year-old husband Ron Crowther was found unconscious at the home in Lumley Road.

It is believed he had taken an overdose. He is still unconscious at hospital in a critical condition.

Police said at this point they were not looking for anyone else in connection with their investigations.

It is understood Mrs Crowther suffered from Alzheimers disease and was being cared for by Mr Crowther.

Ron, full name Frank Ronald Crowther, is the half-brother of ITV's Price is Right host Leslie from his father's first marriage.
