Fire fighters have attended two house fires in two days in an empty estate cleared ready for development.

Two fire engines attended two separate house fires in Nightingale Close, Hackbridge on Sunday and Monday nights.

Fire services attended a blaze at a derelict house at 8.38pm on Sunday night, putting it out in about 40 minutes.

The fire significantly damaged the ground floor and first floor of the house and caused major smoke damage to a neighbouring home.

A second fire happened shortly before 9.27pm on Monday night.

Fire services extinguished the fire by 10.31pm and the house was left with a small amount of damage to its ground and first floors.

It is understood the last residents of Nightingale Close left last month.

Planning permission for the demolition of existing housing was granted to The Lavender Partnership in January 2013, to build 25 affordable homes.
