Police believe they have found the body of Hany Nabil Mustapha, 46, floating by the Isle of Wight.
Mr Mustapha, who lived in Worcester Park with his family but grew up in New Malden, had been missing since Saturday, the day after his birthday.
His mother Laila , 77, said: "We heard the news. The policeman came and he said that they found his body floating at 1 o'clock at the Isle of Wight.
"They're 95 percent sure its him but they still have to do the fingerprints and make sure that it is.
"We can't do anything now. We are all distraught. I can't accept it. I can't believe it.
"I can't take it. He's my son."
She said: "The house is full of people trying to comfort me. But there is no comfort."
