Health chiefs are staying tight-lipped about four doctors suspended from a Streatham practice.

A spokeswoman has refused to give any other information and will not even deny accusations made by patients online.

Dr Arun K Singh, Dr Jayanti Singh, Dr Vinodray Patel and Dr Nusrat Mazhar have been suspended from the Streatham Place Surgery in Brixton Hill.

Dr Singh and Dr Singh were both suspended on August 9, Dr Patel was suspended on August 8 and Dr Mazhar was suspended on August 11.

The Medical Defence Union, which is representing Dr Mazhar, said she wanted to make no further comment while the investigation was ongoing.

A spokeswoman for NHS South East confirmed the suspensions but would give no further details about them.

She said arrangements were now in place to ensure patients could still access proper health advice.

She said: “NHS South East London can confirm that Dr Arun K Singh, Dr Jayanti Singh, Dr Vinodray Patel and Dr Nusrat Mazhar have been suspended by the General Medical Council. As a result of the suspension they are no longer eligible to practice as general practitioners.

“NHS South East London has arrangements in place to ensure patient care is not affected by these suspensions. Registered patients of the practice will still be able to access the practice as usual. NHS South East London will not be issuing additional information at this stage.”

Patients at the surgery have previously vented their frustrations on its NHS page.

An anonymous patient posted in September 2010: "I am extremely appalled about the service I received. They are extremely disorganised and on more than one occasion failed to diagnose my illness correctly, which resulted in visiting the hospital due to lack of follow-up from this doctor!"

Another anonymous patient posted in March 2010: "This practice has failed on a number of occasions to action referral letters in a timely fashion.

"Doctors also don't seem to have time to involve patients in asking questions about conditions."

A final anonymous patient posted in May 2010: "They seem to operate on a walk-in basis most of the time, but when I do manage to make an appointment I am rushed and never feel like my questions or illness has been dealt with properly. I am going to try to register anywhere else as soon as possible."

A spokeswoman for the General Medical Council confirmed the suspensions and said they would be investigated.
