Rob Monk from West Norwood, is taking on the challenge of a lifetime to run 1,400 miles in a year and raise money for Sense, the national deafblind charity.

The 36-year-old accountant will be running the London marathon on 13 April and the Berlin marathon in September.

As if that wasn’t enough, he decided to push his limits even further and run 1,400 miles throughout the year, which is the distance from London to Berlin and back.

“I’ve never done anything like this before - it will be a real challenge putting the miles in as it’s the equivalent of running a marathon every week for a year!

"Finding time to train regularly takes a lot of motivation but it’s great to know that I’m helping to support deafblind people achieve their own goals.”

Rob, who has never run a marathon before, is aiming to complete the London marathon in 4hrs 30 and has been gradually building up his distances.

“The great thing about running is that you get to run against yourself and there’s real camaraderie between runners. Whatever your age or skill you can always challenge yourself to go a little bit quicker, though after this year, I may take it a little bit easy for a while.”
