Sunshine is expected to beat the foggy start and bring a glorious afternoon to south London and Surrey.

Forecasters from the Met Office predict temperatures of up to 20C as the sun burns off the morning mist.

A forecaster said: "Fog patches at first. Most areas will see bright or sunny periods, but cloudier in the west with mist and fog near Hampshire coasts.

"Mild, becoming pleasantly warm in the sunnier periods by the afternoon, particularly near London."

As the night draws in, he said the mist and cloud would return, bringing foggy patches, with temperatures dropping to around 4C.

However, the south east could avoid the rain widely forecast for tomorrow, despite a cooler day than today.

Temperatures could hit 15C as the weekend approaches.
