Rugby stars Jerry Collins and George Smith will take part in a charity match to raise money for the Queensland flood appeal and victims of the Christchurch earthquake tomorrow.

Hosted by London Welsh RFC, Doug Howlett and other international stars will be in attendance to watch an Australian XV take on a Pacific Barbarians team.

London Welsh and Tonga back row forward Epi Taione has been heavily involved in the organising of the match.

He said: “Australia and New Zealand are two countries we as Pacific Islanders look upon as mother countries.

“They have always helped us over the years and doing something like this is a way showing our support to all the families and letting them know that we are thinking of them.”

Many Pacific Island internationals have lived in Queensland or Christchurch.

The Pacific Barbarians will be captained by former All Black Jerry Collins and feature among others Filo Tiatia, Henry Paul, Mosese Raluni, Tana Umaga, Viliame Satala and Sililo Martens.

Taione added: “Watching the events in New Zealand we felt something had to be done. It’s hit the rugby community very hard.”

The charity day will also feature an Aussie Rules match, an Aussie beer tent, a touch rugby tournament for kids and other entertainment and refreshments.

Richie Gledson, 26, of the True South Group helped to organise the event.

He said: “We were originally going to do an event just for the Queensland floods but when the Christchurch earthquake happened it just made perfect sense to raise money for that as well.

“It was Epi Taione’s idea, he has had such a prestigious career his contact list is something someone would pay a lot of money for, but when word got out players were coming to us asking if they could play.

“I would say to anyone who can, please come down it’s going to be a great opportunity to meet some of the greats of the game and if you can’t make it search Pacific Barbarians on justgiving.com to donate.”

The action gets under way at Richmond’s Old Deer Park from 10.30am tomorrow.

Tickets priced at £10.

VIP tickets are available at £100 + VAT per person, which will include a buffet menu, table wine and reserved seats.
