The River Crane is set to benefit from a £280,500 grant aimed at helping to protect the capital’s threatened habitats.
The Heritage Lottery Fund grant was awarded to the London Wildlife Trust (LWT) and will be used as part of a three-year community project along the 8km stretch of the river that flows through Richmond.
The grant will be split between Crane Park in Twickenham, Roxbourne Park and nature reserve in Harrow and Yeading Brook Fields in Ealing and Hillingdon, and used to improve the sites’ natural habitats.
LWT chief executive officer Carlo Laurenzi said: “The trust believes it is important to protect the capital’s wildlife.”
Crane Park was awarded £400,000 in March 2009 after a record number of people voted for the green space to win a share of the Mayor of London Boris Johnson’s Help a London Park campaign.
