Video of strange light over Twickenham posted on YouTube

First published in Richmond by , Chief reporter

A Twickenham man has been left perplexed after spotting a mysterious object floating in the sky and has turned to YouTube in the hope of identifying it.

Vicarage Road resident Ed O’Toole captured the strange light above his home on video and posted it on the website to see if keen astrologers or UFO enthusiasts might be able to explain what it is.

Mr O’Toole said: “I saw it from my toilet window.

“It has been there for a number of weeks and it was moving and as stars don’t move I started thinking it must be something else.

“Someone thinks it could be Venus but it moves too much for that.

“I have been on the internet and there are a few who think it could be something but people are reluctant to say it’s a UFO.

“Unfortunately the quality of the film on the website doesn’t do it justice.”

Tonight (29 Jan) I saw Venus to the left of and somewhat higher than the crescent moon. The alignment wasn't perfect, but a few years ago I saw Venus symmetrically placed so as to face downwards into the moon's horns. I suspect that Mr O'Toole saw Venus. When I video'd Venus today, it appeared to move about because of camera shake, but to the naked eye it was quite still. Moving clouds or a wobbly posture could make it appear to move.

I agree with the previous correspondent, and I did see a particularly impressive sight of the crescent moon and Venus tonight over Richmond.

Personally, I feel the UFO sightings are complete rubbish in each case and there are rational explanations for each 'sighting'. There are no little green men, but the stories do sell newspapers for the 'what if' factor!
