The achievements of people who work in the Richmond’s dementia care were celebrated at this year's annual Richmond Dementia Action Alliance meeting (RDAA).

A range of attended the RDAA meeting at Hampton Court Palace on Monday, November 28, including representatives from health services, voluntary organisations, businesses, churches, residential homes, libraries, care agencies and community groups.

The borough-wide group has been set up to help local businesses and organisations to become dementia friendly.

The RDAA has created a growing community that has a good understanding of dementia and is committed to working collaboratively to help people to live well with dementia.

One of the major highlights of the year has been the success of Local Richmond Charity and RDAA member, My Life Films.

The group scooped the Outstanding Dementia Care Product of the Year 2016 award at the Dementia Care awards in Brighton earlier in November.

The awards rewarded excellence in all parts of the sector and the opportunity to reward those who continue to work tirelessly to provide consistently outstanding care.

Richmond Council's cabinet member for adults' services, Councillor David Marlow, said: "The meetings are wonderful opportunities to hear about dementia friendly activity taking place across the borough, with a fantastic mixture of organisations represented and information shared.

“There were some insightful presentations delivered by members and the afternoon also served as a way for members of the Richmond Dementia Action Alliance to network."

Jo Foster, My Life Films project manager, added: “We are very honoured to have the hard work of our wonderful team recognised.

“We are passionate about celebrating their lives and shifting the focus away from the illness.

“We couldn't do this without the ongoing support of groups like the Richmond Dementia Action Alliance.”
