Music and dance from around the globe is set to bring Richmond Riverside to life this weekend as the free to enter On The Edge festival is held.

The two day festival will take place on Saturday August 20 and Sunday 21 from 1pm to 7pm and is produced by Richmond Art Service, bringing traditional beats and exotic summer sounds from far flung regions of the world to your doorstep.

Cllr Meena Bond, cabinet member for culture said: “The world music focus means there will be something for everyone and this one is shaping up to be the best summer event yet! I hope to see lots of residents enjoying the shows."

Latin Jazz band Sambossa are the opening act of the weekend, with Circus Raj, a so-called “super group" of Rajasthan’s eliter street circus performers following them.

Keeping the party going into the evening are The Sugar Kings, who will take the audience on a journey through Cuba’s musical history.

The final act of the day are Bafula; described as “incredible” by BBC Radio 6 Music at WOMAD Festival in July this year, they blend traditional rhythms and melodies from Gambia with western music styles such as funk rock and Jazz to create a unique and intoxicating concoction of sound.

Sunday sees prog folk rock band Kindred Spirit kicking off the live performances, followed by The Flamenco Show an hour later which brings a fusion of traditional and modern flamenco which The Observer called ‘Beautiful, elegant and captivating’.

Next up are local acoustic group Eel Pie Pirates, playing Cajun, Cletic and pirate songs, after which come Kasai Masai whose lyrics portray the vast cultural diversity of Congo where more than 400 languages are spoken. Closing the festival are Mariachi Mexicano, London’s finest and most authentic mariachi band.
