Twickenham's famous Church Street parade is the latest road to undertake an improvement programme this year.

Improvements will include increasing pedestrian space at the Water Lane junction and repaving the pavement using granite sett stones.

The work is expected to be completed by summer 2015 in time for the Rugby World Cup.

Richmond Council cabinet member for transport Councillor Stephen Speak said: "Over the past 12 months, we have invested millions to improve the pavements and highways - really opening up the area for both the community and local businesses.

"For many people, Church Street is Twickenham’s jewel in the crown - with its independent shops, flowered streets, pubs and restaurants and wonderful community feel promoted by the businesses.

"This work will build on that and enhance the area - all in time for the very popular alfresco dining this summer and the later Rugby World Cup."
