A man who died at Surbiton train station this morning was believed to be a 68-year-old from Surbiton, according to British Transport Police.

Police have not formally identified the man, who was struck by a train off platform two just after 9am.

Trains are still disrupted because of the incident, made worse by a national issue with the rail network’s IT system.

The station has seen several deaths, suicides and failed suicide attempts in recent years.

Shocked commuters saw a man survive being hit by a train on Valentine’s Day this year, after he fell on to the tracks just after 6pm.

Murat Telli, the owner of Wilder’s Deli opposite the station, said: “It happens a lot. I don’t know why - maybe because the fast train comes through. It’s not nice because it’s very close to the shop.”
