A student from New Malden is urging his community to support his mammoth bike ride across Europe for charity.
Christopher Tebay, 21, who lives in Roseberry Avenue, is joining his fellow university student George Prevett on an 850-mile endurance bike ride in aid of the Royal British Legion, for which they hope to raise £10,000.
Mr Tebay, who studies at the University of Southampton Solent, will from Gerona in Barcelona and finish at a war memorial in Dover after 18 days of touring.
He said: “We are part of the university rowing team but nothing will have prepared us for this kind of challenge. We are going to have to have specialist equipment and a completely different diet.
“I chose to support the Royal British Legion because I have got uncles that have served in the army. It’s also something I am considering doing myself one day.”
The students are now asking local businesses in Kingston and Southampton help with their appeal and have already raised £1,000 from their friends and family.
