Lord Adonis believes incorporating suburban train stations like Kingston, Surbiton and New Malden into the London Overground system would lead to better maintenance, more staff and more frequent trains.
Roxy Simons asked Kingston station customers if they agreed.
- Samantha Buckland, 39, pharmacist: “I travel into London from Kent and Thames Link is huge because it’s improving our Overground facilities.”
- Hannah Shepherd, 24, events organiser: “I think it would reduce congestion, and offer more train services to different areas.”
- Sandra Blackwood, 17, student: “I think that it would definitely help improve accessibility to the station because people tend to come here often.”
- Vanessa Cameron, 22, volunteer: “The Overground will make things better in Kingston, but if the prices went up then that would be a shame.”
- Ann Clarke, 79, retired:”If it meant that Kingston became much more connected to other areas then I could meet my niece more often.”
- Lee-Roy Zozo, 18, student: “It will be much easier to travel. There will be much quicker transport, and it would cost a lot less, so for a student it can only be a good thing.”
- Keith Barker, 38, graduate: ”I think it would be a very good idea. Having the London Overground will make everyone’s journey faster.”
- Stuart Gray, 34, factory worker: “I think it would be great as long as they run late, because the main problem for me is getting back from London.”
