The rain held out until the very last race at a nursery sports day attended by Dominic Raab MP.
Children at Rosalita Edwards Montessori Nursery, East Molesey, competed in jubilee-themed races where they had to put on robes and crowns on June 15.
There was also a magic show, prayers before races, and picnics for spectators.
The completion spread to parents as well, who took part in a cake-making competition.
Principal Rosalita Edwards said: “The day gave our children the chance to learn about sports and well-being, but also about our Queen and her jubilee.
“It also taught them about the Olympics so now they know what it is all about and what it symbolises.
“They learned about team spirit, and how to run in lanes, and hopefully it will now strike a chord with them because they understand it.”
The sports day, the first in the nursery’s new Imber Court venue since they moved from Kingston, raised £400 for new nursery equipment.
