A man who dragged a 24-year-old woman into an alleyway where he raped her has been found guilty of the horrific attack.

Harrison Ndirangu, 23 from Normanton Road, Croydon targeted his victim as she was waiting at a bus stop at 5am on October 22.

He grabbed her from behind and then dragged her into an alleyway where he subjected her to a prolonged sexual attack.

Despite the trauma of her ordeal the brave woman managed to memorise the registration number of his car as he led her there after the attack. He demanded she give him her phone number and told her they would meet again.

The victim gave police the registration number of his car and they arrested him at home later that day.

He was charged with one count of rape and one count of assault by penetration.

He has been remanded in custody while a date is set for his sentencing. He was convicted on April 12 at Croydon Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Neil Matthews, from the Met’s Sapphire command said: “This was a calculated attack on a woman going about her everyday business. The victim’s presence of mind in memorising her attacker’s vehicle registration assisted in bringing him to justice.

“The public can be reassured that the Metropolitan Police will use all possible means in the investigation of rape and other sexual offences.”
