Police are appealing for witnesses following an alleged sexual assault that took place in Katharine Street on Friday, January 15.

A girl in her late teens left a nearby night club in the high street and made her along Katherine Street at 12.15pm.

A man is said to have followed her, grabbed her, tried to kiss her and pulled her to the floor.

The man then got up and made off in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a skinny, light skinned man, possibly Asian, in his late 20s, with short dark hair and was said to have been wearing a dark jacket and jeans.

Detective constable Julie Tovey from Croydon CID said: “I’m appealing to anyone who may have seen a man of this description in the area to come forward and speak to us.

“It was a busy Thursday night in the town centre and this happened shortly after midnight, when there would have been people leaving pubs and clubs in the area who may have seen something or somebody acting suspiciously.”

Anyone with any information should contact Croydon CID on 020 8649 0258 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
