Croydon College has unveiled plans to open a secondary free school in East Croydon.
The proposed school, called the New Croydon Academy, would teach pupils aged 11 to 18 at the college's existing campus.
The school is proposed to open in September 2016.
It would be free of local authority control and instead managed by a newly established trust called the New Croydon Academy Trust.
Frances Wadsworth, principal and chief executive of Croydon College said: "This is an exciting opportunity for Croydon.
"Together, we can provide resources, expertise and world-class facilities to benefit the pupils, the community and the future prosperity of the borough and beyond."
The college has invited responses to the proposal to be submitted via a questionnaire on its website by October 5, when it will launch a formal consultation within the school's cachement area.
Ms Wadsworth said: "The feedback activities have been designed to enable as many parents as possible to indicate whether they would welcome this exciting proposal.
"I hope that everyone who can, will fill in our questionnaire."
