Olympic gold medallist and Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins will be in Epsom at the starting line for the Tour of Britain cycle ride this summer, it has been confirmed.

Last year’s winner of the BBC’s sports personality of the year will be in the historic market town for the start of the eight-day, 96-mile cycle race.

The first leg of the tour will start in Epsom on September 21 and finish in a final climb up Guildford High Street.

Wiggins won a gold medal on Surrey’s roads in the time trial at last summer’s Olympic Games but pulled out of last year’s Tour of Britain before it reached the county for the final stage.

Last year’s Tour of Britain generated almost £7.2 million for Surrey’s economy, according to Surrey County Council.
