A rapper who has raised thousands of pounds for charity has been nominated for a Croydon Champions award.

Ryan Matthews-Robinson, of South Croydon, was inspired to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society after his grandmother, Maureen, was diagnosed with the condition.

The 25-year-old. who is also known by his rapper name Ragz-CV, teamed up with his grandad Robbie 'King' Robinson, 73, to create an E.P to raise funds for the charity.

The song, called Paying Homage to the King, was released last year, and at the launch event more than £800 was raised for Alzheimer’s Society.

He also teamed up with Co-Op stores around London who let him sell his CD in their store.

Since then, the 25-year-old has donated around £3,000 from CD sales and live performances and aims to continue writing songs and raising money for charity.

His next song, Summer Days/Summer Nights is being released in August.

Mr Matthews-Robinson now wants to go into schools and colleges across South London to inspire young people to do good work for charity.

His music manager, Adam Porter-Blake, who nominated Ryan for the Charity Volunteer award, said he had done amazing work for the charity.

He said: "Being Ryan’s music manager I have witnessed firsthand the good work he has done. He gave 50 per cent of all CD sales to charity.

"Ryan has been an amazing ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society and is a shining example to all young people."

Naomi Hemings, a friend of the musician, also nominated him for the same award and said it was rare to see a young person be so generous.

She said: "It amazed me that he would be so generous even though it’s in Ryan's nature it’s rare to see a rapper do something like this.

"He has raised thousands of pounds in a unique way and in my opinion he deserves to win this award."

Mr Matthews-Robinson thanked those who nominated him and for the support people had given his charity work.
