A man has warned dog owners in Chessington to be vigilant after his dog was stolen from outside his house.

Callous theives stole Marc Boardman's dog Molly outside his home in Leatherhead Road on Thursday, January 10, at around 9.45pm.

He then received threatening phone calls from men with Irish accents, saying they would harm Molly unless Mr Boardman paid them £200, which then rose to £1,000.

Mr Boardman contacted the police and tried to arrange a meeting but the thieves never showed.

He said: "If you've ever had a pet dog you'll understand what we are going through as a family.

"I feel all dog owners should be made aware of what's going on and to be vigilant with their dogs."

An eyewitness saw three men, with Irish accents, take Molly, a collie cross, and put her into a small white van with a fencing company's name on the side, in an arched/rainbow shape.
