Children could win the chance to see their pizza creations served up to customers during this summer’s Kingston Food Festival.

Primary school pupils across the borough have been submitting ideas for all new Kingston-inspired pizzas to be served over the week-long festival.

The three winning ideas will be created into real-life pizzas by local Italian restaurants and served to customers with the ultimate winner decided by public vote.

For every special pizza sold restaurants will donate money to a chosen charity.

Stalls and workshops will take over Kingston town centre as the best fresh food and drink from local growers and producers will line the borough’s streets in August.

Foodies will have their appetites wet by a host of restaurant events and promotions, live food shows, tasting master classes, local chef demonstrations and an epic food market with the finest produce.

Beer-lovers will also be able to check out a range of beers at Kingston Beer, Cider and Wine Festival which coincides with the Food Festival and Kingston Restaurant Week.

Meanwhile cocktail fanatics will be able to watch staff from Kingston’s famous bars and clubs participate in a cocktail mix off against each other. Festival director Nick Mosley said: "Showcasing quality local food from the farm to the restaurant is a key aim.

"We want to make the Kingston Food Festival as accessible as possible to ensure everyone can enjoy good food and drink, and learn more about the fantastic, affordable English produce on their doorsteps."

The food festival delivered by Kingstonfirst will run for seven days from August 6 to August 12.

Kingstonfirst chief executive Ros Morgan said: "We have delivered a successful food festival for many years.

"In order to ensure the festival becomes market leading, we are working with the team behind the award-winning Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival, one of the largest food events in the UK."
