An award winning author visited a Streatham secondary school to talk to students about her latest book.

Michelle Harrison, author of Unrest, visited The Elmgreen School and spoke to some of the school's highest achieving pupils, as well as to visiting students from neighbouring Dunraven and Norwood schools.

Best known for The 13 Treasure series, Ms Harrison's latest book- a ghost story, sees her entering new territory.

Unrest is a novel for slightly older readers and promises to be a chilling read.

Ms Harrison said: "Scary stories are a great way to get the heart thumping and adrenalin racing. We all like being scared but stories give us the opportunity to explore being frightened in a safe way."

Two spine-tingling extracts were red from the book and then students were invited to ask questions.

After the session, one year nine student said: "It as really interesting and fun. I learned a lot from the Q and A session- I didn't want it to end."

Avnee Morjaria, Assistant Headteacher and coordinator of the Gifted and Talented programme said: "This was a great activity for our Gifted and Talented students.

"The event was part of our wider Explore programme which stretches our more able students."
