Olympian Colin Jackson hurdled his way to a Carshalton Primary School to congratulate children for completing a virtual walk around the world on Friday.
Jackson visited Camden Junior School, Camden Road, to present a certificate of achievement to participants of this year’s 50-day Global Children’s Challenge.
After spending the morning playing sports with the children, Mr Jackson thanked the 258 participating children from years’ four, five, and six and teachers for their efforts in walking 80 million steps.
As part of the child obesity-challenging scheme participating children were issued with pedometers to record their daily step count.
The students were amongst 120,000 pupils from 27 countries participating in the second year of the not-for profit initiative.
The winning Camden Junior class came 11th in the world after wearing their pedometers to dance and karate classes.
Pupil Luke Stevenson, ten, said: “I starting wearing it to football and then I wore it whenever I went out of the house. “I had lots of fun.”
